PacifistRiot Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Considering that Google Checkout is being discontinued in November you guys should probably migrate that gateway to Google Wallet so people can be ready for the transition. Quote
Paul Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 We are planning to do Google Wallet, however it has come to our attention that Google Wallet will not support hosting providers, which diminishes their usefulness in the industry.. unless they have changed their minds? Michael 1 Quote
PacifistRiot Posted August 21, 2013 Author Report Posted August 21, 2013 AFAIK Wallet supports digital goods ( http://www.google.com/wallet/business/digital-goods/ ). The categories available include "Internet, network, and digital media". Web hosting is a service but is considered internet and networking. Quote
Michael Posted August 21, 2013 Report Posted August 21, 2013 Sounds like they've changed their policies however I bet it still is USA only. Quote
Paul Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 My bet is Google becomes more and more hostile to the hosting industry, as they encroach further and further into it. Quote
Michael Posted August 22, 2013 Report Posted August 22, 2013 My bet is Google becomes more and more hostile to the hosting industry, as they encroach further and further into it. Probably will less fraud, since fraudsters always use webhosting companies hoping they don't find out the payment wasn't completed. Quote
PacifistRiot Posted October 25, 2013 Author Report Posted October 25, 2013 So when November 20th come around will blesta change checkout to wallet or will checkout just be removed and not replaced? Google keeps sending me emails and I want to make sure. Quote
qps Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 We spoke to our Google account rep and they told us hosting is not allowed on Google Wallet. Quote
Ken Posted October 30, 2013 Report Posted October 30, 2013 My bet is Google becomes more and more hostile to the hosting industry, as they encroach further and further into it. That's more of a Microsoft tactic. Companies like Google and Amazon let small businesses build the marketplace so that they can swoop it up later without enduring the cost of building it themselves. They'll always beat us on purchasing power. Quote

It's a good thing Blesta can be used for more than just billing for hosting services Quote
FRH Dave Posted October 31, 2013 Report Posted October 31, 2013 I've also heard Google Wallet will not support hosting. Even if it's a miscommunication, I'm not about to chance it. We had a bad experience with them before and for what it's worth, I'd just as soon stick with Stripe and PayPal. Quote

We had a bad experience with them before and for what it's worth, I'd just as soon stick with Stripe and PayPal. It's not a miscommunication, it's their official stance. I don't think it's specifically stated on their website anywhere at the moment...but if you give them a call they will tell you it's not allowed. Quote
Ken Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 What is their official reasoning for those who have spoken with them? Quote
Daniel B Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 What is their official reasoning for those who have spoken with them? something along the lines of "because we said so" The person I spoke to (not my official rep) was very blunt about it and didn't really seem interested in explaining why even when asked. I'm curious what they consider a hosting company anyway. Anyone that provides remote data services... even SaaS companies? Quote
Daniel B Posted November 1, 2013 Report Posted November 1, 2013 I'm curious what they consider a hosting company anyway. Anyone that provides remote data services... even SaaS companies? that's a pretty good point, with the way they are treating it right now, it's like a huge gray area with what's allowed and what isn't...specially with the fact that it's not even written down anywhere. I'm going to sit down later today and write up an email to send to my google apps rep and see if I can get some sort of decent response. Quote
PacifistRiot Posted November 2, 2013 Author Report Posted November 2, 2013 Would it be just hosting services that google doesn't want or online services in general? If it's the former then I don't see an issue with Blesta supporting Wallet as I could just as well be using blesta for managing payments for, lets say, managing other people's servers. Quote
