I was wondering if it would look better with the main category numbers told you how many articles are in the whole section and not just the main category.

 

I think it did in the Alpha private version.

We discussed this before, but chose not to do it due to the amount of resource usage required to calculate it recursively.

 

The count is actually the number of categories+articles that are direct descendants of the parent category.

Ah, it just looks like there is 24 but there's not

The best way to do with with the least overhead would probably be to calculate it when a new article or category is saved, and store the counts in the database.
