Support Tickets - Inserting Code Without Losing Formatting

I would be grateful if someone could please advise me on the best way to insert code (html/php) into a support ticket reply so as not to lose the formatting?

 

For example, I insert this text and code:

 

 

and it comes out like this:

 

[Michael]

You want to use this:

 

```

Insert code here.

```

 

I don't think the markdown for certain code works at the moment eg:

 

```PHP

 

```
