Free Hosting Trial

Question

Posted

I am trying to create an incentive for people to sign up and want to create a 30 day free trial.

If I create a standard package and:

  • Set the term to one month at a price of 0.00
  • Select 'Cancel at end of term'

I assume that this will just switch off access after a month?

If 'Yes', can the client then upgrade to a standard/paid account and keep everything going?

Yes, that will set a cancellation date of the end of the initial term, and the hosting plan will be cancelled and anything on the server likely deleted (depending on module, like cPanel will delete their cPanel account entirely on cancel). An alternative is to make the price 0.00 but set a renew price of something else, say 5.00. Then the first month will be free, and if they don't cancel they will be invoiced the renew price going forward.

I want acomplish the same for 7 days. I see I can creat an additional payment term for 7 days but after 7 days the plan will just suspend or if I set a renewal fee it will be applied to 7 days only. Isn't there any auotmated way that upon expiry client will be offered a choice to switch for either monhtly or annual plan?

The term is not changed automatically. If you offer a free trial for 7 days, then you should set a price  for renewal. Then, if you allow clients to change term, they can switch to monthly. If they don't switch they'll be billed for 7 days at a time. Or, you can keep an eye on all these trials and change the term to 1 month yourself, then they'll renew for 1 month instead of 7 days.

Yeah. I thought of the same. Just wanted to confirm if there is a better way to do it. Thanks for prompt response.

A better way would probably be an automatic term changing feature, which is something we are considering. If we add that, then you could configure 7 day terms to automatically switch to renew monthly as soon as they are created.
